Development of bio-compound using microbe functions
Microbes exist in more forms that humans currently know about, and each type has its own capabilities. These capabilities can be harnessed to create new functional materials and compounds with biomass as the main ingredient. It is hoped that this work will bring about innovations that will reduce carbon dioxide, save energy and improve people’s health.
The Microbiology Research Center for Sustainability is working on production methods using microbe fermentation, such as the development of highly functional biomass-based plastics and ingredients for these plastics, and the development of drugs and functional compounds to keep people healthy. We are also carrying out research with the latest microscope technology to breed microbes for fermentation. New microbes and genes discovered through this work are to be protected as biological and genetic materials.
